This week’s discussion board is on the topic of Sustainability from Chapter 15. This Chapter has a lot to say about various angles of the Sustainability equation in Business. The case for all three branches of Sustainability (Social, Environmental and Financial) are addressed here, as well as some creative solutions. The idea of addressing Sustainability through commerce is evolving, controversial and complicated.
For this post, I am interested in your personal views on Sustainability. You can sight research that you have done to support your ideas, but you don’t have to right about anything more than your personal view. Questions that might get you going are: 1. Why are businesses being tasked with resolving sustainability issues? 2. Are the environmental aspects of sustainability just media and political hype? 3. What are the risks for firms who are not embracing the idea that sustainability is their problem to resolve? 4. What role does collaboration play in the resolution of some of these complex issues? 5. Is it fair to ask developing nations to shoulder the same burden as developed nations in resolving carbon footprint issues?
There are many more angles to consider Sustainability from, so feel free to write about a topic that interests you.
Please keep in mind that you do not have to agree with the book, me or your fellow students. This topic gets a lot of air time in the media, however, I am looking for your personal viewpoints on this one. All I ask is that we respect everyone’s opinion.

In the next unit, the first major component of your dissertation is due: Chapter One: Introduction.
While your chair is reading your prospectus or forming your committee, begin a working draft of chapter one. Chapter one is an introduction to your study which identifies the problem and its components. Remember…some of the information included in your prospectus should be used for chapter one. This chapter should:
• describe the problem background (nature of the problem)
• identify the purpose of the study
• present the guiding research question(s) or hypotheses
• provide the definitions of the terms
• identify the limitations and delimitations of the study, and explain the significance of and justification for conducting the study.
After reading the chapter, the reader should be satisfied that:
• a case has been made for the existence of a problem or appropriateness of the topic;
• the problem has been clearly delineated;
• and the problem or topic has intellectual merit worthy of doctoral dissertation research.
