1. The first step is to pick a residential landscape design that you like and to document it as an image. This design can be a) a digital image that you captured using a digital camera of a home landscape in your area, b) a scanned image from a magazine or book, or c) a high resolution image from the Internet. The image/design MUST show the placement of landscape plants and other landscape elements in relationship to the home or residence. Images of natural landscapes such as “my favorite bit of scenery in Yellowstone National Park” or any other non-residential setting do not quality for this blog assignment.

2. Once you have obtained your image, create a blog post entry within the assignment blog created by the instructor, which contains your image along with your written analysis of the home landscape with respect to the principles of landscape design which you learned about in the Landscape Design topic. In this document, you must answer the following questions about the residential landscape design image that you chose. To receive full credit, these questions must be answered in a blog format of 3 to 4 paragraphs of prose and NOT as a ‘list of answers’ to a ‘list of questions’.

• Why do you like the design of this particular residential landscape?
• Does the design have a theme, and if so, what is the theme? (For example southwestern desert, tropical, English garden, western ranch, Asian garden, Mediterranean, edible garden, butterfly and hummingbird garden, etc.)
• What is the focal point of your residential landscape design?
• What landscape elements are used as accents?
• What landscape elements are repeated in the landscape to bring unity to the design?
• Is the design balanced symmetrically or asymmetrically?
• Is texture or color used to provide a sense of rhythm in the landscape?
