Building new IT systems that deliver the expected business outcomes is paramount to the success of an organisation. A number of IT projects fail to deliver business value. According to The Standish Group only 39% of all projects successfully delivered on budget, on time and to the required specification.
Many projects fail due to many different reasons (i.e. Projects do not meet business needs; Projects do not meet financial objectives; People issues; Poor management; Poor communication; Not working effectively together, not understanding requirements….). There is no one overriding factor that causes project failure.
Critically discuss the reasons for Information Systems failures and how these failures can be addressed during the systems development life cycle.
