As Hickey (2014) mentions, the criminal justice system allows for a wide range of punishments, including fines, probation, parole, incarceration. And even though Canada basically abolished the death penalty in 1976, it was still eligible as punishment for certain military offences until 1998. What sort of considerations should influence sentencing for (multiple) murderers?
