Description
A Gregor Mendel studied traits with only 2 alleles, such as yellow or green seeds-
There are traits which have multiple alleles, such as a person’s blood type which has
A, B, and 0 alleles- To demonstrate you understanding of multiple alleles, addess
the following-
1- Complete the “Blood Types Chart” (an attachment in TaskStream for this task) of
genotype and phenotype for simple inheritance of blood type in humans-
2- Using Mendelian inheritance, describe the offspring that would result from a mother
with blood type A and a father with blood type B- In other words, for each possible
combination of parents’ genotype, provide an accu’ate ratio of genotype and
phenotype inheritance in the offspring.
3. If a baby presents with a phenotype of 0, identify all the possible blood genotypes
of the parents-
8. After reviewing inheritance theory, perform the following study of commonly
inherited traits in humans-
1- Design a su’vey in which you list six inheritable traits (e-g, tongue rolling,
handedness, hand clasping, PTO tasting, gender, thumb extension, or color vision)
that can be easily observed-
Note: Pick traits, such as those listed that have national averages available- See
attached list of Traits and their frequency-
2- Collect su’vey data for at least 20 individuals- In a chart, document the frequency of
expression of each trait-
3- Research the traits to find national averages for the rate at which each characteristic
is evident in the general population- In a second chart, document the national
averages for each trait-
C- Sickle cell disease is a recessive trait- rt results from a mutation of the hemoglobin
molecule- Create an accuate diagram (see note about diagrams at the end of the
task) of a cell affected by the sickle cell disease- Along with you diagram, describe
the following:
1- How sickle cell disease is inherited
2- The frequency of inheritance of the disease
3. Why it is considered recessive
D- In a brief essay, do the following:
1- Explain the role of mutation in evolution-
2- Explain how the mutation or adaptation that causes sickle cell disease can also be
influential in favor of the suvival of some individuals-
