Summary
-undocumented immigrants at a restaurant + four paradigms
Mamma’ Korean – Japanese near a college campus. Four adult male workers + Mamma are based here. Close- knit type setting. Workers receive a steady but low pay check and concerns are cared for. Mama’s on hiring undocumented employees says that it is impossible to make profit with the increases of lettuce, beers, beans sprout etc. She cannot afford paying hourly because the restaurant becomes empty at most times. Workers relax during this time so there is no point paying for that. Mamma likes consistency and the workers do not ask for holidays or days off. They do not complain about wages because of the visa issues and she likes that. Work is from 10:30am to 10:30pm – Tuesday and Sunday.
Analyse the Mama’s Family (Kim, 2009) case study using Burrell & Morgan’s (1979) four paradigms. Your answer should (a) interpret the case study using at least two paradigms and (b) discuss which interpretation is most persuasive and why.
