World Bank and the Narmada dam Dissertation Essay Help

Order Description
Assignment description
The purpose of this assignment is for students to develop an account of the World Bank’s relationship with one particular country as a vehicle
to develop their investigative and analytical skills.

The main focus of your account should be the changing quality of the relationship, so you should try to focus on episodes or incidents or
decisions that either: (1) caused that Bank to change its views about the client country; or (2) caused the government or the people of that
country to change their views about the Bank. The conclusion of your essay should therefore focus on the question of whether the relationship
improved or deteriorated over the course of the decade, and why that change occurred.

You can search the World Bank website for relevant material, and use a search engine to discover any other ‘grey literature’ that may be of
relevance, but you need to bear in mind that you are likely to discover a lot more documents than you can usefully refer to in your essay, so
you need to be developing the focus of your narrative account at the same time, so you can ignore material that is not going to be relevant to
your argument.

Topic description

For this paper please look at the World Banks efforts in constructing the Narmada dam in India between 1975 and 1985.

Please note that this paper needs to be written from the perspective of the Bank i.e. why the bank built the dam, what were the activities
that went on behind the scenes at the bank, what was the final outcome for the bank and the changes to its policy etc. Only give a brief
outline as to what the historical context is, the paper needs to focus more on the Bank. The paper also requires an analysis as to why the
bank did what it did and what are the future implications as well as a brief note as to how the bank changed its stance after the Narmada dam.
