Order Description
Objectives
The objectives for this assessment item are for students to show:
a. understanding of the skills needed to succeed in academic and professional life
b. ability to reflect on their own skill levels and identify areas where improvement may be needed
c. knowledge of university services that can assist with skill development
What you need to do
Download the Skills Audit Template and complete both parts:
Part 1 Audit – Rate yourself on each skill as either No, Not Sure or Yes. Be honest this part is not graded, you need to submit a copy simply to show you have done it.
Part 2 Reflection Now you need to reflect on what you have learnt from the audit. Write 500 words covering the following:
1. What are 3 areas of strength and how can you use them to your advantage in studying? (for example, good time management means you will be able to get feedback on draft work before it is due to be submitted) approx 100 words
2. What are 3 areas where you need to improve most and why are these important for successful study? (for example misunderstanding assessment tasks can mean even a well written essay will be off-topic) approx 150 words
3. What are the key steps you can take to help you improve the skills you have identified in question 2? Make sure to include here any help you can obtain through this course, the School of CCJ, the library or other areas of the university or elsewhere. (See the next page for suggested resources to discuss in question 3). approx 250 words
Formatting
Answer each of the three questions in complete sentences and paragraphs. Dot points are not appropriate for this assignment.
Use 1.5 or double line spacing and 12 point font
Indent the first line of each paragraph
Proof read your paper; this will reduce spelling and grammatical errors, and ensure that you pick up any awkwardly worded sentences.
Use formal language; avoid slang or colloquial speech
Do not use contractions, use do not as oppose to dont.
Typically you should use 3rd person in academic essays (i.e. avoid words like I, you, we). However as the topic of this assignment is you, you are permitted to use first person, e.g. My areas of strength are or I can improve these skills by
