Instructions
For this assignment we will explore a three-dimensional online environment named SecondLife. Although it was conceived to be a social environment, its focus has switched and more and more schools and colleges around America have started using it as an online platform for learning.
You will need to create an account and download the viewer

Then you will explore the following sites within SL:
-TOC Art Gallery
-Moscow Island
-Fantasy Forest
-Renaissance Island
-The university of Western Australia
You can also visit other sites/islands. I encourage you to explore all the features of SecondLife including avatar and environment customization, external links, teleportation, etc.
After exploring Second Life, read about the Sloodle tool (http://www.sloodle.org) and answer the following questions. Focus on the tool, not the brand. These answers are your opinion about virtual worlds for online education.
•How was your experience using SL? (the good, the bad and the ugly!)
•Do you think virtual worlds (VW) can be an effective online educational resource?
•How could VW be incorporated in your classes/work/research?
•What are their advantages of VW for educational purposes?
•What are their disadvantages?
Discuss one of the following topics regarding virtual worlds:
•social interaction
•classroom collaboration
•Historical recreations
•Simulations and role-playing
•Distance and flexible education
•Language learning practice
Grading: This assignment should be completed in APA style format. The questions are your opinion, the discussion topic you select will need at least two references (two references are required, more are acceptable). Your text book may be used as one of the references. Address all five questions and select one of the discussion topics and elaborate. This assignment is worth 30% of your course grade. The five questions count half and the discussion topic accounts for the other half. The body of the assignment (excluding title and reference pages) should be at least two full pages. TurnItIn will be used for this assignment to check for plagiarism
