The essay′s purpose is to argue an interpretation of Nora aligned with or against a position put forth in one of the two commentaries on ″A Doll′s House.″ Since you are
writing an argument, remember that all persuasive essays follow this expected pattern: thesis, the primary insight into the literary text; reasons or claims that
support the thesis; evidence from the text to support each reason; and interpretation of the reasons/evidence in terms of your thesis. (see Chapter 29 for further
explanation of these terms.) Be sure as well to read the handout on avoiding the pitfalls of a literary essay also found in the Composing the Literary Essay module.
