1. Identify and describe the example of discrimination and oppression that you have
selected.
a) Discuss how this practice impacts human rights and social and economic
justice for a vulnerable population group. Is this practice primarily based in
stigma, denial of economic opportunity, social isolation, etc.? Provide
evidence of the impact of this practice on the selected group. Include a
discussion of human rights and social justice as it applies to this situation. (2-3
pages).
b) Describe why/how your selected group represents a vulnerable or
disadvantaged group in society. Provide both a current and historical example
and evidence to support this. (2-3 pages)
c) Describe how this oppression and discrimination impacts society as a whole.
For example does it benefit some groups? Does it hurt or limit society as
whole? (1-2 pages)
2. As a social worker, how could you work to advocate for the goal of human rights
and social and economic justice in this area? (1-2 pages)
a) Describe a social work intervention or approach that you would apply to
advance this goal. Provide a definition of the approach and a specific example
of how you would apply it.
b) Discuss how your intervention/advocacy might improve the experience of this
group in society and might benefit society as a whole.
