INSTRUCTIONS
1. Do the assigned paper on the selected topic below:
a. Religion:
1) List and discuss at least five characteristics or elements that go to make up religion.
2) Define religion according to Molloy and then formulate your own definition. Substantiate your
rationale for the elements that go to make up your definition.
3) Discuss William P Alston’s characteristics that assist one in defining religion.

2. You will write a 3-4-page evaluation of your selected topic which will be due by the end of Unit 3. The review should be done as a Word document in Turabian format,
with 3-4 double-spaced, typewritten pages in 12-point font and 1” margins.
3. Your paper should reflect that you have carefully read, understood, and evaluated the material of that topic.
4. Your evaluation should have at least four parts:
a. Identification: Provide an introductory paragraph that identifies the topic that you have selected
(roughly 1 to 2 paragraphs).
b. Response: Respond to the required questions by providing facts from your readings and
PowerPoints. You should provide a minimum of 25 facts in your discussion that are relevant to the
topic that you have selected. These facts should be cited as appropriate (roughly 1-2 pages).
c. Evaluation: Respond to the areas of your paper that require critical reflection. Consider elements
such as why a certain belief or choice was made (roughly 1-2 pages).
d. Summary: Provide a final summary of your thoughts regarding the selected topic and the material
that you covered in your discussion (roughly 1 paragraph).
5. This assignment is due by the end of Unit 3 on 14 July.
