Coursework 1: Research Project Portfolio

Produce a Research Project Portfolio based on the seminar sessions. This must include the following two elements:

a completed ‘research project proposal’ form (see Appendix 1) for your research project proposal you have worked on in the seminar sessions.
an accompanying commentary including: (a) your own assessment of the feasibility of the proposal in terms of: strengths & weaknesses; conceptual originality; methodological requirements; research skills requirements; and (b) your reflections on how this proposal could be developed into a dissertation project.

Please note: while the Research Project Portfolio will have been developed and discussed as part of group work during the seminar sessions, each student is required to complete his/her own individual proposal form and commentary as part of this coursework.

Word limit: 1500 words
Both elements 1 and 2, above, will be equally weighted. Hence, they should each be of similar length – i.e. approx. 750 words. Overall, Coursework 1 should be 1500 words long.

Assessment criteria
The criteria by which the mark will be allocated for this assignment are as follows:

Extent to which each element of the ‘research project proposal’ form has been addressed, demonstrating evidence of appropriate understanding of the various components of a research proposal.
Extent to which the accompanying commentary engages with, and reflects upon, the various aspects involved in the development of research proposals.
Clarity of the structure of the research project proposal form and accompanying commentary.
Adherence to conventions of academic writing (including referencing).
Presentation and clarity of writing style.
