Practice your visual analysis. Take a moment to look over your album cover. Describe what is on the page/screen in front of you as though your reader is someone who is not looking at the text. Consider these questions (if applicable) as you record your observations about the visual elements of the text:
Contrast: What visually stands out to you? Is there emphasis or shading that causes this contrast? Are there objects that seem to stand out? Arrangement: Are there words on the page? How are they organized? Is there a directional movement in the piece? Where is your eye drawn (focal point)? Repetition: What colors, words, or other elements are repeated through the text? Are any images repeated or mirrored? Why do you think this is so? Color: What colors are there? Or does it lack color? What is the overall effect or tone conveyed from the colors or absence of color? Now take one step further, and consider why the artist (or band) might have constructed the visual elements this way. What effect do these elements have on how you view the text? Do you believe that the visual elements effectively convey the text’s intended message? Why or why not?
Submit one page double-spaced (roughly 300 words). This writing activity is something that you should use to get started on the visual analysis portion of your FFN analysis draft.
