Music History from World War I to Present

The paper should be 6 to 10 pages of text + endnotes and bibliography. I want you to spend your time researching and writing about something that is meaningful to you. The only boundary lines are that the topic must come from the content of this course, which is World War I to the Present. You can write about classical music from that period, popular music, jazz, theater, theory, ethnomusicology (how the world affected a western composer or arranger), music education, and so on. The only thing you cannot write on is a composer’s life, her or his biography. You can even explore a topic that is not in the text, for example the effects of Asian music on American jazz, or South-American approaches to jazz. You can write about the ways that wars have impacted composers and performers; or the ways that governments have affected composers ad performers.
