Brief: Write a research paper of not less than 1600 words dealing with one of the following 5 topics:
1) Alvar Aalto, Eero Saarinen, Louis Khan;
2) James Stirling, James Gowan, Kenzo Tange;
3) Robert Venturi & Denise Scott Brown, Michael Graves, Charles Moore;
4) Norman Foster, Richard Rogers and Michael & Pattie Hopkins;
5) Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry, Rem Koolhas
Having selected either topic 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, compare and contrast the design theory principles adopted and actual projects contributed to modern architecture by comparing and contrasting the work of 2 masters from the 3 personalities given.
e.g. You may choose option 4 and compare and contrast Norman foster with Michael and Pattie Hopkins – or you may decide to choose option 2 and compare and contrast James Stirling with Kenzo Tange.
How important was architectural form, spatial planning and technology to these masters? Discuss.
