I am looking forward to doing my interview within the next week. I am going to be interviewing a woman who is an outpatient therapist who has her master’s in social work. Since I am going into my Masters of Social Work this fall, I think she will be a valuable resource for me. I was really undecided about what degree plan would be the best for me to do, MA in Counseling or my MSW. After talking to many people and thorough research I found that most times many employers actually prefer the MSW and it is a much more marketable degree. I found it really helpful to go to online job search engines and look up jobs like therapist that I was interested in and most want someone with their MSW and LSW, not counseling and LPC. So I think that from my interview I will be able to learn a lot about what to expect for schooling and how to get licensed. I am also looking forward to learning more about what her daily job duties are like, since I have never worked as a therapist, it will be interesting to hear what the job is actually like. Since she lives within an hour from me, I also think that learning about expected pay will be important for me to know. I think anyone who puts that much money and time into their schooling should have an understanding of how much money they should expect to make starting out. I really look forward to hearing about what things she has learned on the job that school did not teach her. I am a true believer of life experience being a major player in how we grow in our career fields and life. This interview will also be very important to maybe learn some tricks of the trade as to how to avoid being burnt out. Especially with working as a therapist, I feel it may be difficult to leave your job at work and not bring it home. You become emotionally connected with an individual and I think that this could be a difficult part for me. So understanding some ways to do that will be very beneficial for me. I would not say that I really have reservations about this interview. If I had to come up with something, I suppose it would be that I hate to inconvenience anyone and take up much of their time. I also am a nervous person, so I hope that I do well with the interview.
