Controlling variation and establishing strategic partnerships are challenging activities. Leaders use different skills with each strategy. Control of variation requires application of Statistical Process Control. Strategic partnerships require application of negotiation practices. Ideally, a leader will use both strategies to reduce cost and improve quality.
Instructions
You will write an individual research paper based on selected readings from Quality Management for Organizational Excellence, Chapters 5 and 18.
1.Read Chapter 5, pages 64-76, and Chapter 18, pages 298-325, in Quality Management for Organizational Excellence. Decide which chapter topic interests you more to write a paper about. You will write about either Chapter 5 or Chapter 18, not both.
2.For either the Chapter 5 or the Chapter 18 topic (not both), write a paper responding to the following questions:
a.What challenges and opportunities do you perceive in using Partnering or Statistical Process Control to improve quality? How would you apply the concept in your work environment or in another situation with which you are familiar?
b.What did you learn about quality management as a result of the course’s PIP? How could you use the PIP process in your work environment or in another situation with which you are familiar?
3.Your paper should be 600 to 900 words in length. Using APA format, include two citations from the reading. Your paper should include a cover page, research addressing the two questions, and a references page.
4.When you’ve completed your paper, save a copy for yourself and submit a copy to your instructor using the Dropbox (Turnitin will be enabled) by the end of the workshop.
