The Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science says, We believe that scientists have a responsibility to share the meaning and implications of their work, and that an engaged public encourages
sound public decision-making.” Persuade me either that publicizing the “implications of their work” and getting involved, in essence, in the political process will cause problems for public trust
in science (and why) or that this is what scientists should do (why? And how far should it go?). Alternatively, argue for what level of “sharing” scientists ought to do (i.e., using our historical
materials and evidence, argue for a middle ground and what that middle ground should be and why).
