Order Description

Advocacy Activity
Students will scan the environment for areas where policy needs to be changed, developed, or where advocacy is necessary. Students will demonstrate their ability to develop opportunities to advocate with colleagues, clients, and the community for policy change by becoming actively involved in advocating for a specific policy that advances social well-being and acknowledge the intersectionality of human rights and social, environmental, and economic justice. Students will implement this activity (letter writing, lobbying, working on a campaign, etc.) and write a paper describing their efforts and reflecting on their experience. Students will demonstrate leadership by sharing this opportunity and experience through a presentation to classmates.
Write a 3-5 page paper following the guidelines below.
Describe how you scanned the environment to select an area where existing policy has created barriers for individuals, groups, or communities through the process of nuanced analysis.
Discuss how you formulated a plan to address the needed advocacy; be sure to include any collaboration with individuals, colleagues, groups, or communities.
Summarize the advocacy activity, being explicit about any interactions with colleagues, clients, or the community during the process.
Reflect on what you learned about advocacy. What sparked your interest in this topic? Did you find the experience challenging, rewarding, and easier than you thought it would be? How might you do things differently next time?
