Final Exam Essay Questions

CHOOSE 3 of these essay questions and write no more than 1 typed page 1.5 spaced for each one. Each question can probably be answered fairly well in 300 words.

1. Describe the linkages between the sun’s energy, vertical air circulation cells, the Coriolis effect and the dominant wind direction in Vincennes, IN. You could do this with a story of an air molecule.

2. Describe the process of igneous rock that was several km deep in the earth’s crust millions of years ago being transformed and becoming sediments in the Mississippi delta. Include weathering, uplift, and other important processes involved.

3. Describe the processes and locations of metamorphic and igneous rock formation at a collisional plate tectonic boundary. I suggest using an oceanic crust-continental crust collision and making a drawing to illustrate your points. Please include the processes involved in making these rock types and how they relate to plate tectonics.

4. Describe the difference in stellar evolution of stars the size of our sun with that of stars 4+ times larger than our sun. Include all of the steps and the causes of each step.

5. Choose a region or landscape, describe the landforms in it, the drainage pattern, how the geology influenced the landscape, and the surficial processes that influenced it as well.

6. Link Ocean currents and the weather conditions of 3 specific regions.

In each case, describe how the weather patterns of the place are influenced by one or more ocean currents.
