Wright Mills analyzed modern politics and society. 1) Explain Mills’ power elite model. 2) Provide two examples of power elite members from contemporary America(i.e., provide name of power elites and institutions that they belong to), and explain why they are considered members of the power elite. Next 3) Explain pluralist theory; and 4) Evaluate power elite model (i.e., discuss strengths and drawbacks). Finally, discuss: 5) Mills’ concept of “the overdeveloped nation (society)” in a post-modern period; and 6) his assessment of America (1950s through 1960s) (i.e., his use of the concepts of “Functional rationality” and the “garrison state”).
