The four mental structures as described by Fodor include, Noe-Cartesianism, Associtionism, horizontal faculties and vertical faculties. The most superior is the neo-cartesianism because it explains that the mind is not the begginning of life in infants. It explains that the infants are born with certain cognitive furnitures that include engines that can render images. The neo-cartesianism also adds that infants are born with a certain knowledge that is pre installed in their brains. The neo-cartesianism is therefore the basis or the foundation of the other mental structures.

The superior alternative is modularity because it states that the brain encompasses many highly specialized modular systems and that their activities are independent from each other which are designed for making decision, reasoning and belief fixation.
