Write a piece of fanfiction.

Your second option is to engage with a text by writing about the characters and/or the world of an original work. Your story should be 1- 2 pages long, and I would also like you to include the following:
A description of your fanfiction’s relationship to the original work (Is it filling in a missing scene? Is it speculating what happened before the work began or after it ended? Are you exploring a “what if”/ AU (alternate universe)? Is your story a cross-over? Are romantic pairings canonical? Etc.)

Some sort of reflection about the experience of writing fanfiction. No more than a paragraph. Was this your first experience writing fanfiction? What was it like interacting with an original work this way? Did this give you any insights into the original work that you might not have garnered had you engaged with it in a more conventionally passive manner?

If you do decide to write a fanfiction story, I would suggest going to a web site archiving fanfiction (like Fanfiction.net or Archive of Our Own) and look at some examples of other stories written about the original work you have selected. Look for some conventions within the fan community.
