• Discuss the differences and similarities between the versions you have chosen for study, especially in terms of narrative and the conventions of the fairy tale genre
• Discuss the similarities and differences in the way each version represents ideas and values about children and childhood, especially from an historical perspective and
• Apply to your discussion, via direct quotation and proper citation, at least two key points you have identified from the prescribed e-readings from Weeks 2 and 3 in the Study Guide.

Part 2

Picture book analysis – short essay

750 words, worth 20 marks

Referring to two different spreads (usually single pages, but sometimes half pages or double-pages) of your choice from The Little Refugee, use your skills in picture book analysis to demonstrate how an implied child reader is positioned to think about multiculturalism, refugees and migration. In your short essay you should:

• identify your chosen spreads and their relationship to the ideas contained in the book as whole;
• apply to your example, via direct quotation and proper citation, at least two relevant points you have identified from the prescribed e-readings from Week 4 in the Study Guide and
• refer to at least three of the conventions and visual elements of picture book narration you have learned to identify: line, frame, gutter, shape, colour, layout, medium, style, font etc. to support your analysis.
