Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of the towering figures of early American literature. For a long time, The Scarlet Letter was the only American novel that many foreigners would acknowledge as a great work of literature.

The purpose of this project is for you to apply your knowledge and understanding of the influence of American novels and authors, as it was addressed in this unit, through the study of one American author’s life, that of Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Here is your goal for this assignment:

Write a short analysis of Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Review the first two lessons of this unit, noting the distinctions and influences of American writers, including that of Nathaniel Hawthorne.

Select at least three sources concerning Nathaniel Hawthorne. Only one online (Internet) source may be used, and a minimum of one print media source must be used. All sources that are used to write the report must be cited in the report using correct MLA format for parenthetical citation. Read and take notes about Hawthorne’s life, his works, his philosophy, and his religious beliefs.

A World with Nothing More than Hypocritical ThoughtsThere is more than a few words, and plainly quite a sight, that scandalous actions bring. The notion of having a person state the unwanted and hideous truths about how one may truly feel about certain matters, undeniably creates quite the chaos. Many authors in literature have a sweet and exquisite escape to the crude reality that they might have lived on. They wrote away their thoughts and simply expressed how they truly felt about matters that they would not expressopenly in front of society. One of these authors happened to be Nathaniel Hawthorne.
