Topic: Employment relations: collective bargaining & workplace discrimination

Order Description

Step 1: Research
During the semester, read and research the media and identify two (2) issues that relate to the topic you have chosen. The aim is to end up with a number of different media articles (at least three) relating to each issue. With these, you may be able to trace the development of an issue or to consider how an issue is dealt with by different media. Remember to look at editorial comment as well as straight news reporting as this can provide more insight into an issue. Issues could include comment by politicians, business lobby groups, unions and others.

I’ll provide media articles that are related to the issues.

Step 2: The wider contexts
Once you have identified your issues you now need to consider the wider contexts in which
these issues sit. For the theoretical context you can go to the course work for this unit, or the
textbook might have other chapters that are relevant, or you could research the context
(briefly) using ProQuest or the electronic library or similar. For the wider context, you should
consider whether the issues you have identified have wider social, political or business implications. This is where considering editorial comment would be useful.

Step 3: Writing
This assessment is essentially a two-part discussion so it doesn’t follow the normal form for an essay or report. I suggest you set it out with a brief introduction and then just have the two issues set out in turn (with headings relating to each news topic if you like), and then a brief conclusion. If you can make any connections between the issues and the wider social, political or business contexts that is great, but not an essential requirement of the assessment. For each issue you will necessarily need to provide a brief summary of the facts, but take care to keep this to a minimum. You really just need to provide enough information so that the marker can
identify the issue.

I must use minimum 10 journal articles in addition to the media articles.
