Effectiveness of physiotherapy out patient triage on waiting list and sorting of patients

Topic: Effectiveness of physiotherapy outpatient triage on waiting list and sorting of patients

Research Methodology
One therapist will be assigned to triage patients. The therapist is trained on using clinical information systems. Referrals will be received in three key ways. The first way is where the doctors will refer patients to outpatient physiotherapy electronically through a clinical information system (CIS). The triage therapist will then receive the referrals and schedule appointment with patient for a face-to-face or telephone triage if he/she unable to come.
The second way staff from the call center will also come every day and bring all their referrals to physiotherapy from different departments to the assigned triage therapist. The therapist will request the patient to come in for a face or telephone triage. Finally, the triage therapist can see the walk-in patients with paper referrals. After seeing the patient, the triage therapist will carry out a brief assessment and put the patient in the right appointment criteria, then the clerk will give the appointment for the patient.
*Priority Distribution for Triage in physiotherapy department:
P1 : TKR (total knee replacement), THR(total hip replacement), Fractures, Surgeries, Arthroscopy, Facial palsy, Recent traumatic injuries (within one week)
P2: Semi-urgent cases (patients who will worsen if not treated within 10-15 days)
P3: Normal or nonurgent cases all chronic cases and patients who have just completed their PT treatment (more than one month) use references as much as you can.

The benefits of physiotherapy are based on the various initiatives taken by the early
support discharge team to improve the patient’s wellbeing and body functionalities. The primary
benefits of physiotherapy concern enhancing the patient mobility and recovery of the body
functions, reducing the time of stay at the hospital and helping the patient regain independence.
Also, physiotherapy improves life and reduce the risk of stroke recurring, help the patient to
recovery and gain strength that enables relearning of things one could not do, and enhances the
patient’s confidence and self-esteem.
