Select one of the following essay questions. You must refer to at least two of the texts we have studied in this paper in your answer. Note
that ‘text’ includes short stories and films as well as novels. You are welcome to write about the Young Adult fiction Melody Wilkinson
lectured on. If you want to write on Kurt Vonnegut’s stories you must also write on a text by another author. For this assignment some wider
critical reading about utopias and dystopias and the texts you have studied is necessary.

1) George Orwell argues that the function of dystopian literature is to ‘show us man at the mercy of a system over which he has no control.’

The essay is comparing the two novels 1984 by George Orwell and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.
