Current events to marketing concepts
You will write a roughly 800-word editorial following the format of the Wall Street Journal (Links to an external site.). This will be an opinion piece that discusses some current marketing phenomenon or trend. Even though the phenomenon itself may not be strictly a marketing phenomenon, you will look at it through a marketing lens. The editorial should include relevant links and properly credit sources. You will need to create a catchy title and you will need to find a free, open source image to use as the header image. You will be graded on the following criteria:
1. How well does the author tie what’s happening in current events to marketing concepts learned in class?
2. Is the title, image and writing interesting and engaging?
3. How relevant is the editorial to marketing practitioners?
4. Does the author go beyond summary and provide analysis and recommendations? Hint: A summary is telling your readers what happened. Analysis digs deeper to determine the underlying causes, e.g. “why did this happen” or “what went wrong here.” Recommendations to consumers, managers and investors can help your readers make sense of it all. What should they do now? Analysis and recommendations are very important.
