Discussion 1
For this weeks discussion I decided to watch the movie Insomnia to analyze the psychological explanations for crime within the film. The movie started off with a criminal who was a writer and killed a young 17 year old girl. Soon after, the detective went out on a search looking for him and accidentally killed his co-worker. He tried to hide this which ended up causing him insomnia due to his guilt. Later in the film the original criminal describes his motives and his explanation for his crime. He describes how he never wanted to kill her but she laughed at him for his vulnerability and blames her for what happened. He said that she just kept screaming and was terrified so he hit her and tried to cover her mouth and then she stopped, and that’s when she died. He didn’t show any remorse and thought that it was okay because it was an “accident”. This man showed big signs of being a psychopath he was charming, dishonest and had a difficult time inhibiting his impulses. He also told the detective that he saw him kill his coworker and therefor he couldn’t tell on him or else he was going to go to the police and tell him that he killed his coworker. He started to call him at random times reminding the detective what he had done, but always kept his cool and was very calm. Due to him being a psycho path it was confusing to tell what stance the movie took on punishing the mentally disabled. Due to his charm the movie at first made it seem like it really wasn’t his fault, that the person who was more at fault was the detective for killing his coworker. However, at the end the psychopath looses control and starts shooting at the detective and his new partner which makes it more clear that he was the criminal this movie.

Discussion 2
In the movie We Need to Talk About Kevin that i choose to watch was about Kevin’s life. This movie was very
confused and this little kid had issue with himself. Some criminal motives involved him being the victim from his family. He was a victim of autism, which is a seriously development disorder that impair the ability to communicate and interact. As a young boy, he couldn’t speak or do ordinary things that kid do. Most of the time he used to popped in his pants and he behaves differently from the normal boys. He was rude to his parents and when he was young his daddy start teaching him how to shoot things. He was abused as young man with his mom and he lied in the doctor’s office when his mom broke his arm. He was very smart and had many talents. He killed many people at different places and he even killed his own daddy and sister. After that, he was taken to Jail and put them forever. His mom was traumatized and lost everything in her life. She used to see many ghosts and remembered her husband almost every time. She had many Obstacles in her life and was surrounded with violence all the time. Under these circumstances, those were the explanation of crimes he committed. There were not any treatment for mental Unstable because when the mother went to see the doctor he told her that he was fine. The doctor Said that the kid was fine and he hadn’t any trouble. Both parents had a hard time making the Kids to settle down and he often get in the trouble at school.
