Assessment #1 – Poster presentation

Imagine that you have to design a slogan for a poster aimed at parents of either:

Early childhood aged children

Middle childhood children

Adolescents

The parents come from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds. English will not be the first language for some of them. You do not have to
design a poster just the slogan that you would put on a poster. Then design a short (10 minute) power point presentation which represents what
you would say on the poster. The poster describes one of three developmental theories you have learned about in this course:

Jean Piaget

Erik Erikson

Lev Vygotsky.

The first power point slide will present your slogan. The rest of the presentation aims to inform parents about your chosen theory in plain
English and encourage them to think about their children’s developmental needs.
The presentation will allow 10 minutes to succinctly describe your main messagse. Your presentation must relate to readings from this course.
A list of at least 6 references should be on the last power point slide.
The power point presentation should contain a maximum of 10 slides and contain only the clear and concise information you want parents to
receive.
Please note that you are not required to include 2250 words on your power point. This number of words is mentioned in the summary purely to
indicate the worth of the assessment.

Feedback on this assessment will be provided on the Feedback form. The Feedback form also contains the marking criteria and the relationship
to the graduate qualities. You are strongly encouraged to review the feedback sheet BEFORE you start this assessment. Feedback forms are

Dear External Students,
As the final deadline for assessment 1 is approaching, I thought it would be useful to provide further clarification and a reminder on the
guidelines for the poster presentation for external group.
In week 5 I posted some assessment information outlining the amendments of the poster presentation for external students. Most importantly,
this includes the notification that students WILL NOT need to present via Skype.
As stated, we (the Course Coordinator and I in consultation with teaching team) have nominated for external students to present a 500 word
reflection on the presentation to be submitted alongside the powerpoint slides. There is no physical way that we could have had 40+ of you
present via Skype in the time allocated to tutorials in an external manner. To make things more specific – in that reflection we would like
you to expand briefly on your powerpoint slide content and explain why you chose that particular theory.
You are also encouraged to utilise the “notes” section of the powerpoint if you want to add a few sentences or a paragraph of background to
the information you are providing on the slides.
Remember, some important points outlined in the course outline

in relation to this assessment:
1.The first power point slide will present your slogan.
2. The rest of the powerpoint slides aim to inform parents about your chosen theory in plain English and encourage them to think about their
children’s developmental needs.
3. The presentation should succinctly describe your main messages and must relate to readings from this course. External students will present
via skype.
4. A list of at least 6 references should be on the last power point slide.

Hi all,
Please note that Assessment 1 will be due on June 5th at 12pm via grade book.
There is an amendment to the assessment requirements outlined in the course outline on pg. 6 & 7. You are no longer required to physically
present on Skype.
