Here is the recommendation:The main recommendation is to capitalize the country’s agriculture of rice and wheat into a nutritious product. Danone should utilize Bangladesh’s two main crops and create a cereal that can be a complementary good to Danone’s original yogurt. There are three types of rice grown in the area which include, Aus rice, Aman rice, and Boro rice. These crops are harvested during different growing seasons and can be harvest with the same harvester saving on equipment. Aus rice is harvested in August and September, Aman rice in October through early January, wheat in March and April, and Boro rice in May and June (Ansar Energy). Understanding the harvesting cycle helps Danone make a decision on what types of cereals to create. I recommend creating two types of cereals, one rice based and the other wheat based. Danone will sign contracts with local farmers and manufacture different types of cereal during the appropriate harvesting months of the year.
Since we are working with an impoverished population, nutritional value is increasingly important. Therefore, it will be of value to apply attention to the research and development of the cereal itself. For example, in order to obtain most nutritional benefits from wheat it should not be extracted from the bran and germ, but rather kept as 100% whole wheat (Mateljan). Rice can have good sources of minerals and antioxidants which help prevent heart disease, but only if it is kept in brown rice form (Arnarson)
