Order Description
Design a prestressed concrete bridge to meet the following requirements:
(1) Total length of the bridge is 200m;
(2) Maximum span length of the bridge cannot exceed 60m, however minimum span length cannot be
shorter than 30m;
(3) The bridge need to accommodate two traffic lanes of 3.6m wide each, a hard shoulder of 3.0m wide
and a marginal strip of 1.0m wide;
(4) Construction Method – span by span with the following guideline
(4.1) Cast full span bridge deck with necessary initial prestressing, at concrete age of 28 days, for
erection and the full span bridge deck shall be erected at the concrete age of 60 days;
(4.2) A 200mm gap between spans is maintained at this stage;
(4.3) The span shall be supported by temporary bearings throughout this stage.

(4.4) The 200mm in-situ stitch will be casted immediately after erection. Top tendon will be
stressed when concrete age of the stitch is 120 days;
(4.5) Load transfer to permanent structural system by replacing the temporary bearings to
permanent bearings will be implemented immediately after completion of item (4.4); and
(4.6) Parapets and road surfacing will be constructed after load transfer in (4.5).
