Analysis Qualitative/Quantitative Research Paper:

The purpose of this assignment is to analyze experimental and qualitative research as a means to understand differences in methods. This assignment will provide the foundation for Chapters 1 and 2 to be used in the Capstone Paper at the conclusion of the MA program.

Procedures:  Select a topic of interest and importance to one’s professional practice and the MA program’s Program Essential Question.
 Write a research question/statement to focus your research investigation based on your topic. Be sure to include the problem to be investigated, the intervention, and the target group of participants.  Select a quantitative and a qualitative research study.  Use the outline provided to analyze the research method in each study.  Length of Paper: minimum of five pages (not including title page or references)  Third Person

 What characteristics of the article led you to believe that this is an example of quantitative research?

 Is the study experimental, quasi-experimental or descriptive? On what basis did you decide?

 If the study was experimental, were the participants assigned randomly? If not, how were participants assigned? Were the participants assigned randomly?

 If the study was descriptive, was the researcher attempting to examine cause and effect issues? If so, explain.

 What types of measurements (instruments) did the researcher use? Did the researcher provide enough information about the instruments to allow a judgment on the adequacy for use in research?

 How did the researcher obtain a sample of participants?

 How well did the researcher describe the demographics of the participants? Explain.

 Did the researcher critique his/her own research by describing limitations? If so, explain. Explain any major flaws you noted.
