assignment:
Respond to post A and Post b with suggestions for improving their questions. As you review comments about your questions and review the questions posed by colleagues, begin to refine your set of questions
Post A:
My interview will be with the Vice Rector of the Karaganda State Unviersity. Since he does not speak English, I make the questions easy for me to ask, and for him to answer so that we understand each other. I have also an interpretor on stand-by, in case I feel I cannot conduct this interview without interpretation in the final week.
Below is the document I have prepared for my interpretor:
Dear Xxxx
My interview will be mostly on their work as leaders of higher education in the 21st century, and the university’s general role in the community. The idea is simply to understand the role of a leader of an institution of higher education like KSU, and maybe to be able to later differentiate the Kazkah university with an American one.
I will be asking questions along these lines:
1 What is your role as leader in this institution?
2 What are your fields/areas of responsibility?
3 Please outline a typical day.
4 What is/are the learning models the university adopts, and why?
5 Does the university promote diversity (of students and faculty?)
6 How does the university relate with the community?
7 What sources of funding do you have?
8 Does the university (and others in Kazakhstan) have to go through accreditation? If yes, what kind? Or with which body? or based on what standards?
9 What are your views/on academic integrity? How does that play in your university and in Kazakhstan?
10 Does the Bologne Process have any bearing on your institution?
11 What is the latest innovation you have implemented in KSU?
12 Finally, could you tell what leadership style you use?
All information will be held in great confidentiality, and anonymity will be guarded.
Total interview time will be 30 minutes maximum (about 2 minutes per question).
Thank you so very much for your help.
Phillipa
